Civil Works & Groundworks
JCS Group Services carries out civil works and groundworks to support advertising structures, shelters and other site installations. Our documented work includes foundations, hardstanding, temporary works and surface reinstatement.
We work on projects where the groundwork is closely connected to the structure being installed. That means considering the foundation design, the surrounding site and the installation sequence together.
Groundworks for structures and site improvements
For main contractors, developers, outdoor advertising operators and organisations improving their premises, the work below ground is a key part of the finished installation.
A new advertising structure needs suitable foundations. A shelter needs a prepared area beneath and around it. Once construction is complete, adjoining surfaces may need to be reinstated so the site can return to use.
JCS combines construction experience with in-house design and engineering support. Our own transport, plant and machinery also support the movement of materials and equipment needed for the work.
This approach is particularly useful where groundworks form one stage of a larger installation, rather than a separate job with no connection to what follows.
Foundations in constrained locations
Groundworks can become more involved when a site is close to existing buildings or has limited working space. Neighbouring foundations, access restrictions and the position of the new structure all need to be taken into account.
At Burdett Road in Tower Hamlets, JCS constructed foundations for a replacement digital advertising installation beside neighbouring Victorian properties. The proximity of the existing foundations required temporary works, including sheet piling and waler beams, to retain them during construction.
The project also involved liaison with a neighbouring property’s surveyor and arrangements for traffic management and parking suspensions. It provides a practical example of groundwork planned around the constraints of an existing urban site.
Hardstanding and reinstatement
Our work at Priory School in Hertfordshire included the installation of a three-bay Centurion shelter, together with hardstanding and hot asphalt reinstatement.
For schools and other organisations planning outdoor improvements, the surface around a new structure matters as much as the structure itself. The installation needs to be considered in relation to the surrounding area and how people will use it.
JCS also has experience of projects that combine structures with landscaping, including installations at Barking Riverside and Crane Street in Manchester.
Discuss the groundwork your project needs
Send us the location, proposed installation and any available drawings or ground information. Include details of nearby buildings, existing surfaces and access restrictions so we can understand the work in context.
